The Salvation Army have given additional funding to this group.

This is a new group for Territories. They initially came to the gallery for 10 sessions inthe autumn, 2007 led by Gaby Lees, Assistant Curator of Arts Learning at the Gallery.  Using portrait images in the collection as inspiration, they created a series of self portrait drawings, prints and paintings.  These were on show in a celebration event at the Gallery on 14th March (and throughout Easter).

The group went on to work with Jo Pullar for a further 14 sessions, using the exhibition Passed as Present and art work on general display, to explore personal preferences and interests. They worked in a variety of paint and drawing media including acrylic and watercolour.

'My work is done by me and I think I’ve done quite well.'

'I am doing the best I can, so now I would just like to keep it going and try to see if I can get it better.'
- Diane

In the autumn, 2008 the group worked with artist Kirstie Briggs-Bateman. They made felt pieces inspired by the exhibition A Thousand Words

Since spring 2009 the group's sessions have been run through City of York Council's Adult & Community Education team. With tutor, Emma Cooper, they have continued to explore practicle art activities and have gained entry level qualifications through the NOCN (the National Open College Network.)
